Durian Smell Remedy

"It smells like hell but taste like heaven."

It has always been a love hate relationship between humans and durian. Most either love it or hate this spiny fruit. And a select few tread in the middle earth of hating the smell but loving the taste. Some I've seen even resorting to snorkels and spoons to eat this king of fruits. I'll leave it to your imagination.

As for me, I love durian! It's rich, tasty and an absolute indulgence for me. We're right smack in the middle of durian season now and this is the time when you can pin point if those around you are enemies of allies. Allies would get excited ad the mention of durian season and join in the chatter of where to get the best fruit for the best price whilst the enemies would be left groaning softly in the background.

Now the main complaint of the humble durian has always been the smell. Intoxication too some, others may describe it as foul, cat piss and even akin to a dead decomposing body. Not to mention the lingering smell that hangs thick and heavy in the air, your fingers and your breath. It even escapes through bodily excretion hours later.

Next is the heatiness. Eastern medicine believes in the concept of ying and yang, heatiness and coolness. Having one too many morsels of durian, one is advised not to drink alcohol or any heat inducing food as it would send your blood pressure sky high. Unless death by durian is your dream. Even modern practices have advised against over indulging for the very same reason.

The common folk practice in Malaysia after devouring our fill of durian is to carry out any of these rituals, if not all:
  • Fill the husk with water and drink from it.
  • Add a pinch of salt followed by the step above.
  • Soaking in the nearest river/bathtub/swimming pool/large body of water.
  • Ingest a large body of water.

I'm now here to share a secret with you. Something that my dear Uncle Charlie passed on to me. A great wisdom he learnt from the indigenous people while serving as a soldier deep in the jungles of Malaya during the communist threat. A remedy to rid of the pungent smell and heatiness of the durian. An antidote if you will, to what makes durian so mighty a king. The secret lies, within.

Within this video.

I told you the answer was within. Do try it. Share it with your family and friends. Remember to give a good rub. And let me know how it goes.

P.S: If I we're to give this remedy a name, I would call it Charlie's Antidote to durian. Uncle Charlie resides in Ipoh. He is in a poor state of neglect from his family due to some misunderstanding and he's suffering from Parkinsons like my dad had. I used the word suffering with most accuracy. Please pray for him strength, acceptance and love.

July Haul 2011

July has been hectic and busy but good. Of course no matter how busy I am, I still make time to shop and even made a video for YOU! Although I must admit that my frequency of post has really taken a dive. The 1st 3 products was bought a few months back but I only got around to showing you today. I do apologies. Please for give me?

The 1st one is an ash blonde wig. It was only RM 50! It's my 1st wig so I did have some difficulty wearing it. It was an interesting challenge. A scull cap would have been handy to keep my true brunette under control. I really like think buy but don't think I would dare to walk around in public in it. Unless it's for an anime convention. Or I'm indisguise as a spy like my adventures HERE. Do let me know if the is one coming up. Anime convention I mean.

Next is the adorable neko scarf. That is a little pricey as it's really nice and warm and this lil kitteh is Japanese hence the price. But it's a statement piece and a sure eye grabber so well worth it. And it's soooo adorable. I couldn't resist. No cats were harmed in making this scarf. PROMISE!

I love floral. It's a print that is so inviting and up lifting. This babydoll dress with trumpet 3/4 sleeves is very boho chic. Pair it with white leggings, big floppy straw hat and bug eyes sunnies and you're beach chic ready!

July is truly my bag month. 1st is a RM35 woven bag I got off a street vendor. Straw woven with light pastel colours and the gold accents are a nice touch. Straps are adjustable and the material feels rather sturdy. Though I'd avoid any liquid on it. I hope my taste was not too far off. Does it look lovely? I plan to get something to spray over it as a protective layer. Do you have any suggestion?
Lastly is an item I got off aishop.com.my. I fell in love with the lock. A rich brown colour makes this bag an easy match with any look and it's actually quite spacious thanks to the design. For RM 38, this is no leather bag. Of PVC material, I'm now researching on how to make the surface last longer. Spray? Let me know if you have any tips to share. Greatly appreciated.

So that's all fro my July 2011 haul. Do drop by my YouTube channel and show some love. Love meaning thumbs up, comment and subscribe ^^

P/S: All in all which was your favourite item? Do leave a comment

P.P.S: Me with out the wig in case you forgot.

Amber Chia Academy Grand Opening in Penang

I love this line,

"There are no ugly people, only many lazy people in this world"

Bonjour Glow~* Vlog

It's true. Everyone, no matter who they are can be beautiful with effort. Sure, there are people born with Aphrodite's touch but one must still work hard to be beautiful on the inside as well.

It was an honour to be invited to grace such an inspiring lady in her grand opening of Amber Chia Academy in Penang.

1 dress 10 ways.

Awesome convertible dress from Ladies Fashion served as my last minute option for the event. Which suited perfectly as the theme, unbeknown to me, was black and red.

Do check them out, the dress is really a steal!

Situated in the same building as the Hakka Association of Penang along Jalan Burma, this strategic location would serve well to the northern lass aspiring to try their luck in the modelling world. You don't have to go all the way to KL or misplace your trust and money on suspicious looking modelling schools. Amber Chia is brining all her years of experience to you.

Thanks to I LOVE DISCOUNT for the invite.

Much thanks to the sponsors who made the grand opening possible:

Hotel Equatorial Penang, Dreamz Productions, kelv (the brainchild of Kelvin Khoo), Prudential and Western Spices.

My partner in crime for that day and fellow Northern blogger, Ms. Jamie of Jamie Writes. Go Check out her blog HERE.

It was my virgin experience of events in Penang. Albeit some things could have been carried out with more fines, it was nice to know that bloggers are slowly but surely gaining ground in Penang.

Can you believe she's not a professional model?

As people started to fill the modest enterprise, one can't help but to notice the beautiful faces plastered across the walls.

Serving as inspiration to aspiring models, make-up artists and budding fashion photographers.

There was a press conference set up, with friends and students giving support and testimony.

The fabulous pillars of ACA

Aided by a strong and equally fierce team in cat walk, make-up, photography and lots more.

Here's wishing that there be many more dreams come true.

Supermodel AMBER CHIA, Catwalk Guru BENJAMIN TOONG, Make up Guru DESMOND YOI, Ford supermodel/Actress KELLY JAGAN, Malaysia Top model/Actor KS TAN, ACA Pj Model of the year 2011 WAFA JOHANNA and KURT CHIN.

Even the help were gorgeous. Check out the hot leather pants.

Sigh, I felt like a human in Avatar.

The people behind/in front of ACA

Of course there was the jolly ruckus of the lion dance to usher in the new opening. The whole stair well amplified the heart thumping beats of the drums as the 2 lions scale the stairs to drive away any bad presence.

I asked this dashing man during the press conference if he and Ms. J of ANTM were to have a walk off. Who would win? Mr Benjamin or him/her/shim/Ms. J?

Though having the ability to strut in 9 inch heels and looking fierce, Mr Benjamin Thoong was very diplomatic in saying it would be fun to take up such challenge and the truth will only be revealed when it actually happens.

1 baby later and she still looks like she could beat any models out there. Lazy she is not.

Our very own Malaysian super model came from humble beginnings. But today, she adds another feather to her already full cap. Not just a model, wife and mother, she has taken it upon herself to help other aspiring models out there. To groom them to be the best they can be and guide them through the maze that is the world of fashion as she once wished she had.Shall we move on to the noms?

Thank you for the lovely finger food.

My favourite, this delicate looking salmon amuse bouche packs a bite with ninja wasabi hidden in the lettuce. Well played.

More delicious looking noms.

A petite dessert to complete the meal.

Andy, my contact for the day. He's actually the Marketing Director of I Love Discounts.

This is Wilson Tan.

A talented and award winning Malaysian model. He was so nice and friendly, ever ready to mingle and chat. He even played a big role in my vlog! If you are reading this know that you are awesome.

Behind every successful model is seldom a man and a cute baby. But Amber has it all doesn't she?

Amber Chia Academy is available in Malacca, PJ and Penang. Do check out the locations in the links below:
