PSA: The Water Rises

I love the rain, best time to sleep right?

Imagine being trapped.
The cool rain bringing respite to a hot summers day.
The downpour becomes more generous.
Splatter becomes puddles.
Puddles becomes flood.
The water rises.
The flood matures.
"My master will save me."
As a nervous whimper escapes.
"See, he's coming with his family."
A happy wag escapes too soon.
The boat dwindles into a speck.
The water rises.
You start to pace as the reality settles in.
The trashing you did only tire your wet shivering body.
The matted fur clings to you as you cling to your last shred of hope.
The noose tightens.
Boats pass you by with families huddles together.
The water rises and you lift your head up high.
"He will save me"
The water rises...

Did you know that there are many puppy farms in Thailand...yes, cute little puppies that eventually make their way into our homes. There is no rescue plan set up by the farm. No "In case of emergency save the animals 1st"

The response has been heartfelt to our brethren in the North. But let us not forget our furry friends. Many dogs, cats and a host of other animals are still trapped, lost, scared, injured, sick and hungry. Imagine being in a crisis and there is no one to help you. No one to turn to.

There are people that would shrug off and say that this is non of our problem because:

  • It's happening in another country
  • I don't like/have animals
  • I have no time
  • I can't make a difference, so why bother.

"When Hitler attacked the Jews I was not a Jew, therefore I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the Catholics, I was not a Catholic, and therefore, I was not concerned. And when Hitler attacked the unions and industrialists, I was not a member of the unions and I was not concerned. Then, Hitler attacked me and the Protestant church -- and there was nobody left to be concerned".

Martin Niemoeller (1892-1984)

So I implore you. Be concerned. Help. In any way that you can:

  • Donation of any kind: Dog food, medicines, basic 1st aid kits, cages.
  • Donation of cash:  Straightforward.
  • Donation of time: You could go and help out. You could blog about it to create awareness. Share it with your family and friends.

The SPCA Malaysia is concerned. And they are asking for your help in any way. Please right click on the picture the go to their new letter.

There will always be those in need of help. And someday it will be our turn. Always do what you can.
