Remember WTF?

UPDATE:

Post has been edited with out compromising the content of this post.

ohmywtf is not just a pretty face. He was a medical student who was doing well till he took courage to leave it and pursue his dreams of modelling. Those of you who didn't know him, it's alright.

When I first joined Nuffnang and got active in Innit, there was this guy who won many of us over.
He was funny, witty and his looks weren't bad either. Alright, this guy was a former model so he looks good.

He posted mostly satires of updates from the news and daily life among the social elites. Who could ever forget his (in)famous headpost. You know, the one with him, Cleo his Bengal cat and nothing more then a piece of leaf on his body.

Though he is cheeky I remember that he knew where to draw the line. Never was he rude or crass but still he could chat up a storm. Anything from skincare to food, clothing to pet care. He was my virtual neighbour in Innit as we always show up around lunch time.

Always welcoming and compulsive spammer at the same time, that is until Sotong Zai said THOU SHALT NOT SPAM. Alright, fair enough. All the spamming was getting in the way of our conversations anyway. Still Ohmywtf still hung around. Updating his blog religiously everyday.

Recently, for some personal reason he has decided to with draw from the blogsphere. No reason were given and speculations arose. What ever it is I'm sure we all miss him and wish him well.

One day while window shopping in Queensbay Mall I spotted little acronyms of his floating about.

Oh My WTF we miss you.

Do you have any memories of him? Do share in the comment below.

Revisit the 3 Fat Virgins

This is me.
Well, not quite accurate. This was me about 3 years back.

What's with the pose and slight scowl on my face?
You see, I was in a play called The 3 Fat Virgins at Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Center (KLPAC). I played the woman and about 3-4 different male characters.
So there I was asked to pose by my director, the bubbly and hugely talented Miss Pat.

"More masculine" she said.
So in my mind I was the Boyfriend that has been waiting for 45 minutes. Probably the hair and the heels made it less convincing.

This play til now remains to be my fondest. Not only because I was in it, but also the issues and boundaries that were questioned. Of feminism and conformity.

Plus I got to be the man and flirt with the gals.

Read here about the experience of being in front of 200 paying spectators.
Read here on the rehearsals. Apparently I was not sleazy enough.

Emo Sky.

Grooming for a Siberian Husky is not easy. They are double coated when it comes to their fur so water that gets trapped in there takes quite an effort to get out. Though they love the water it can be daunting task drying them.

This is Sky. It's spa day.

He likes to sit that way most of the time. Front paw crossed ever so refined and behind in the suckling pig mode. It's actually not so good for his hips to sit like that. Huskies have a tendency to develop hip problems.

Sky had the basic set: washing, drying, cleaning of ears and paws, anal flush, belly shave. This was his first time going to the groomers and I have a feeling he didn't really enjoyed his spa day.

Look at that face.

On they way back home.
Rain drops on the window. Dark night. Passing street cars whizzing past. Flashes of artificial lights.
EMO SKY.

One thing I really didn't is that they pulled out way to much hair from the ears. Sky actually developed mild infection from the exposure. Can you spot how naked his ears are?

ginger+tomato

It's been awhile since I've updated about my garden edibles.
These are the new additions dans mon jardin.

Here we have some fresh ginger. Pretty easy to plant, just get a stick/piece/tuber? of ye ol' ginger and stick it in the ground. I absolutely adore ginger especially in my tea or a hot foamy cuppa teh tarik halia. Smells exotic, tastes heavenly and rids your tummy of the gases too.

Next to it are some baby tomato plants. There are several tiny shrubs around as I prefer to have more then one tomato to harvest at a time but I'm not sure how long I have to wait.

Gardening is not that difficult. All you need is some soil and put in a container. A pot, campbell can, chipped mug, old rubber boots, anything then some seeds and water. Then slowly you start using better soil, fertilizer, usually I just use left over fruit or vege peels, and voila! You are on your way to be a easy, breezy planter like me.

Evergreen Laurel Hotel Review

New hotel. By now if you have been following my blog, you'll know that I simply love hotels.

This time, we'll be staying in Evergreen Laurel Hotel in Penang. Great place as it's on Gurney Drive and not too far from Padang Esplanade where Bon Odori was. My 2 post on Bon Odori here and here.

So let's go straight to the room.

Comfy king sized bed.

Desk with free internet line. Not wifi but the cable is provided there.

Free apples. So healthy.

My favorite part of any hotel, the washrooms. Simple yet tasteful. From the decor you can tell that Evergreen laurel has been around fro quite a few years. The decor doesn't look old, instead it lends a lovely vintage feel to the atmosphere.

The mighty throne with a phone nearby in case of emergencies.

Notice the little square apparatus at the bottom left. A weighing scale! Not sure why, but I couldn't help but to step on it. All I'll say is, it's time for me to eat healthier . The apples came in handy.

BATHTUB! Any hotel room with a bathtub immediately gets bonus marks from me.

The view to the left.

View from the right. FYI, I didn't hire the models on the bottom right to pose.

Let's move on. Breakfast at Evergreen Laurel.

Pink guava juice <3

Good variety here, they have a small but good selection on bread and cheeses.

Hash brown, french toast, corn, roti jala, red beans.

Soba noodles, nasi lemak and salad.

They had many more food to savour such as noodles, pancakes, desserts but I kept thinking of the scale in the bathroom. So I quickly headed for the exit whilst shielding my eyes from the buffet breakfast.

Overall will I come again? Likely. The bathtub, pool, free internet and buffet breakfast was good. The rates so-so, but one thing I didn't like was that the AC cannot be adjusted. I was not uncomfortable but why bother putting a remote there if all you can do is turn it on and off?

Post Bon Odori Party

So from my previous post here, you'll know by know that Ben and I left early because of the rain. But where did we go? I was already all dolled up so there was no way I would return back to the hotel room defeated so off we went doing something we love most, EAT!

1st up was our current favorite Japanese restaurant in Penang, Miraku. Too shy to use my Japanese in front of real Japanese.

All time fav SALMON BELLY. Light ans sweet, melts in your mouth with every bite.

Grilled hotate, cheesy goodness.

Kani/crab salad. Healthy non? A small bowl can go a long way.

After that on our way back to the hotel, we saw this.

Fresh lobster at half price! Only at the Chinese restaurant in Evergreen Laurel.

They were on the Tattler's list in 2005.

But why was the place deserted? Had Ben booked the whole restaurant just for the two of us? No, but I still like to think he did.

Two fake Japanese walks into a Chinese restaurant. Starting of a joke?

Free popiah(spring roll) appitiser.

Shark fin soup for only RM10! Originally RM30 but they were having a promotion. Only per table per dine in. It was a generous bowl.

And the star, le homard frais. It was indeed very fresh but not as sweet. Perhaps it was a farmed loster? And the sauce was over powering.

Desert on the house.

A note of caution, there were no list for drink in the menu so we ordered 2 fruit juices that came up to a whooping RM15 EACH. The glass was normal in size and the juice was fresh and sweet but rm15 PER GLASS? I felt cheated there. could have been another half of fresh lobster right there.

So that I all to my 1st time going for Bon Odori. Not quite what I expected but next year, I'll be prepared.

Lastly,

Bon Odori, Penang 2010

If you have been following my blog or tweet, you'll know how excited I've been for Bon Odori.
I've even bought a yukata just for this special occasion. This is my 1st year attending such an event and it's held in Padang Esplanade, Penang.

Finally I get to wear the yukata (summer kimono) out.

Parking was really challenging even though we arrived at 5.20pm. There were people charging RM5 per parking as the roads were already filled with cars.

Look at the early birds.

Cold tako balls.

Food fair was alright at best. Exorbitant prices and lack of variety made it felt like an over rated pasar malam (night market).

But people still queued up and bought some.

Teriyaki chicken and squid, they were cold.

Sushi of course but quiet predictable. Not much variety.

Sushi King even had a conveyor belt there, but I never liked their quality. Even Jusco has better quality at more affordable prices.

There were yakults stores as well along with laksa, CKT and a host of Malaysian fairs Which was disappointing for me as I was expecting a total Japanese culture immersion. Perhaps I was wishing too hard?

Tables and chairs for people to eat, drink and people watch.

Me, I decided to devour my over priced cold teriyaki chicken at a shadier spot. Luckily I took the a bottle of water from the hotel we were staying at as the drinks were very expensive as well.

The mighty stage in the middle of the field.

Then suddenly,

Yes, it rained...and I didn't have an umbrella.Sigh.

So I quickly ducked in to the tents.

Pretty Origami ornaments for sale.

Beautiful kimonos for rent.

The ones you see many girls wearing here are called yukata, a summer version of kimono. That is because a real kimono has many layers. Not so good in the summer heat.

Made of thicker materials, loving the embroidery.

Then it poured even more.
Rain ,rain please go away...

Still I managed to get some shots.
Wished I had brought my umbrella like them.

Young Japanese kids getting ready for their performance.

Local Malaysians did some performances as well.

Sakana (fish ) bags.

This boy was concentrating so well catching the fishies. Not easy as the net is actually paper.

But he has lightning fast skills.

Look at the line of eager fishermens.

Here is my favorite picture, the kam yue lou (gold fish uncles) In Chinese this has a negative connotation, meaning a pheadophile. But of course I meant here in a more literall sense.

And my least favorite picture...

Lalahs...I think some of the Japanese were offended. But perhaps those pervs would be happy with the easy up-skirt access? They even had the earily high pitch voice to match.

It has already been said to wear respectably. I guess so people have no respect of others let a lone them selves.

Sadly that is all from Bon Odori. I did not stay for the night events. Perhaps next year? When I'll be prepared with an umbrella.

Want to know what I did next?
Stay tuned for more pictures of me in my yukata.
